Maade Valley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maadetal is a district of the city of Wilhelmshaven in Lower Saxony . The elongated district owes its name to the Maade river on which the district is located. It is in the west by the Maade, in the north by the Schaarzeile, in the east by Kurt-Schumacher-Str. and bounded to the south by federal highway 210 .

The district emerged from 1996 in several construction phases. The development was carried out as part of a higher-level project that was given the working title of “West residential city” by the city administration. The aim of the project was to build on the area north of the federal highway 210 between the Europaviertel and the Maade , which was previously used for agriculture . The resulting new residential areas Maadetal-Nord, Maadetal-Mitte and Schaar-West are officially part of the Schaar district .

The Hooksieler Landstrasse (K98) cuts through the district and divides the residential area into the two parts Maadetal-Nord and Maadetal-Mitte. Another optical subdivision is made by the route of the north-west oil pipeline (NWO) running through the district . In the 20 meter wide, non-buildable section of the route, two underground oil pipelines run, which transport the crude oil from the NWO to refineries in the Ruhr area .

The traffic-calmed streets in the district are named after well-known German expressionist painters .

The development in the Maadetal is purely residential and consists mainly of single-family, semi-detached and terraced houses. Around 1,500 people live on a total area of around 42  hectares . This is distributed as follows:

Total area (as of 2007)  Area in ha  Residents
Maadetal-North 16.4 607
Maadetal center 25.9 887
total area 42.3 1,494
