Maat is a Berlin-based death metal band that was founded in 2009.

history

The band was founded in November 2009 by guitarists Felix and Franko. In May 2010, Hendrik joined as a drummer before the line-up was completed with singer Kris and bassist Friedel. After the first rehearsals, the band went to the studio to record the first EP Born in Sand , which contained four songs and was released in late October 2010. After several appearances, the bassist Friedel left the band, shortly followed by Felix. Alex joined the band as the new guitarist in January 2011, before Noël took over bass in the middle of the year. In this line-up, further appearances followed, before the group went to the Soundlodge Studio in April 2013 to record their debut album. In 2014, it was released through Aural Attack Productions under the name As We Create the Hope from Above .

style

According to the band biography on maat-music.com , the band was inspired by groups like Nile and Behemoth as well as by Egyptian mythology . Felix Patzig described the music in a foreword to an interview with guitarists Franko and Hendrik Wodynski as a mixture of technically demanding death metal from the Polish school and Nile. Wodynski stated in the interview that he was influenced by groups such as Nile, Vader and Behemoth. Franko added that for the band, Polish bands were more important as an influence than Nile. According to Sascha Ganser from metalreviews.de , the band plays on As We Create the Hope from Above Death Metal, which has been varied by Egyptian sounds. The genre- typical growls and blast beats have been retained.
