Dompierre-sur-Mer is a commune in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Rochelle and the canton of Aytré . The residents call themselves Dompierrois (es) .
geography
Contrary to what the name suggests, Dompierre-sur-Mer is not located directly on the Atlantic, but about ten kilometers in the hinterland. The municipality is located in the metropolitan area northeast of La Rochelle . Dompierre-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Xandre in the north and north-west, Sainte-Soulle in the east, Bourgneuf in the south-east, Périgny in the south and south-west and Puilboreau in the west. The municipality is crossed by the Canal de Marans à La Rochelle . The National Route 11 runs through the municipality .

- Former area of the St-Léonard-des-Chaumes monastery , probably founded by Benedictines around 1040, proven to be a Cistercian monastery in 1168, closed in 1791, all buildings have been demolished
