Salles-sur-Mer is a French commune with 2,153 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Rochelle , the canton of Châtelaillon-Plage (until 2015: canton of La Jarrie ) and is a member of the commune association La Rochelle Agglomération . The inhabitants are called Sallésien (ne) s .
geography
Salles-sur-Mer is located about nine kilometers south-east of La Rochelle in the historic Aunis landscape . Even if the name suggests it, the community is not on the Atlantic , but a little more than four kilometers east of it. Salles-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Jarne in the north, La Jarrie in the northeast, Croix-Chapeau in the east, Thairé in the southeast, Saint-Vivien , Châtelaillon-Plage in the southwest and Angoulins in the west.
The former route nationale 137 runs along the western edge of the municipality .
