L'Houmeau is a western commune with 2,853 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Rochelle and the canton of Lagord . The residents call themselves L'Houméens .
geography
The municipality is located in the metropolitan area north of La Rochelle and borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west .
Neighboring communities are:
- Nieul-sur-Mer in the north,
- Lagord to the east and
- La Rochelle in the south.
Transport links
L'Houmeau is away from national transport links and is accessed from the D106 département road. La Rochelle - Île de Ré Airport is just south of the municipal boundary .
