It belongs to the arrondissement of La Rochelle , the canton of La Jarrie and is a member of the commune association La Rochelle Agglomération . The inhabitants are called Saint-Medardains .

Saint-Médard-d'Aunis is located about 13 kilometers east of La Rochelle in the historic Aunis landscape . Saint-Médard-d'Aunis is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sainte-Soulle in the north and north-west, Vérines in the north, Sainte-Christophe in the south and east, Clavette in the west and south-west and Montroy in the west.
