history

The shipping company has its roots in Scotland. Since 1770 she has been shipping on European coasts from London and Liverpool . Since 1857 Robert MacAndrew & Co. owned the company, which also served the Royal Mail . In the same year they used the shipping company's first steamship, the Acor with 315 GRT . In 1917 the company was renamed MacAndrews & Co. by its successors . In 1923 she took over Glynn Line Ltd. in Liverpool with their two ships. In 1938 the liner service was extended to the Canary Islands and a combined passenger / freight service to Gibraltar and southern Spanish ports was added. In 1935 the shipping company was taken over by the United Baltic Corporation ; the seat was moved from Liverpool to London. All ships of the shipping company had a deadweight of 1200 to a maximum of 3800 tons.

During World War II , nine ships were taken over by the Royal Navy ; a total of ten were lost through acts of war. In 1947 the express service to Gibraltar and Barcelona was resumed, and in 1967 a ferry service between Southampton and Bilbao was established. 1979 the last RoRo ship , the Goya (3779 tons) was sold; the liner services were completely taken over by chartered ships.

Integration in CMA CGM

MacAndrews operated multimodal container services between the United Kingdom , Ireland , the Netherlands , Belgium , Spain , the Canary Islands, Portugal , Scandinavia , Poland , the Baltic States and Russia .
