MacMillan is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the Mare Imbrium . It is located southwest of a single elevation near the southwestern foothills of the Archimedes Mountains .
MacMillan forms a bowl-shaped depression in the surface that resembles the nearby lunar sea in its albedo . In contrast, the crater edges appear a little lighter.
Before the crater was given its own name by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1976 , it was referred to as 'Archimedes F'.
