Maccabi Rishon LeZion

Maccabi Rishon LeZion is a sports club from Rishon LeZion , Israel . The club is best known for its handball and basketball divisions . The club's first activities, however, took place in football, where comparative sporting competitions took place as early as the 1930s.

basketball

The basketball section was founded in 1976. The club has played in the Ligat ha'Al since 1988 , but has not won a title for a long time. In 2016, the club surprisingly won the Israeli championship.

The home games are played by the team in orange and white in the Bet Maccabi Hall, which can hold 2500 spectators .

Handball

The handball section was founded in 1950. Maccabi Rishon LeZion's first men's team won the national championship 15 times and the trophy eleven times in Israel. As Israeli champions and cup winners, the club played internationally in the EHF Cup ; the greatest success here was reaching the round of 16 in the 2008/2009 season and the round of 16 in the 2011/12 season. This season and the following year, the team failed in the qualifying tournament of the EHF Champions League .

The team, playing in yellow and blue, plays its home games in the Maccabi House Arena in Rishon LeZion, which has a capacity of 900 .
