The Maciejewski Chapel is one of the 19 chapels that surround the Kraków Cathedral . It is under the patronage of St. Thomas and Our Lady of the Snow and is located in the northern ambulatory .
history
The Renaissance chapel was built in 1550 for Bishop Samuel Maciejowski in place of a Gothic chapel from the 14th century where Bishop Florian Mokrski was buried. The bronze entrance grille was created by Hans Vischer from Nuremberg. The tomb of Samuel Maciejowski was created by Giovanni Maria Mosca in 1552 . Cardinal Bernard Maciejowski had the early baroque frescoes painted in the dome in 1602, which depict the legend of Our Lady of the Snow. The late baroque altar was created by Francesco Placidi in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the chapel was restored under the direction of Zygmunt Hendel . The painting work was carried out by Aleksander Borawski and Sławomir Odrzywolski created the new entrance grille .
