Macintosh Performa refers to a series of computers that Apple produced from 1992 to 1997 as part of its family of Macintosh personal computers .

The Performa series was not a separate, uniform series, but a selection of a total of 67 already existing products and product variants that were subsequently combined and marketed under this series name. With this series, Apple tried for the first time to win over home users for their computers, which are otherwise used more in the professional field.

Well-known models of this series were the Performa 200 (actually Macintosh Classic II ), the Performa 400 (actually Macintosh LC II ) and the Performa 5200 (actually Power Macintosh 5200LC). In contrast to the regular Apple products of that time, the Performa series was sold as a package with a monitor and keyboard and with pre-installed software (including ClarisWorks ). In addition, the operating system was slightly modified.

Many early devices in the Performa series followed the design still used in the iMac today, in which the monitor, motherboard and drives are housed together in the same housing. The models differed greatly in terms of processor performance and equipment. The Performa 5200, which was available with a built-in TV tuner and could be used as a compact television set , was particularly popular .

No new devices were added to the Performa series as of April 1996. Production of the last model, the Performa 6400, was finally stopped in August 1997.
