features
The 13 cm long Madagascar dwarf fisherman resembles the European kingfisher . It has a black beak; his legs are red. The vertex is banded green-blue-black, the upper sides of the wings are dark blue, the throat is white. The chest, the belly and the undersides of the wings are light reddish in color.
Subspecies
The Madagascar dwarf fisherman occurs in 2 subspecies :
- C. v. johannae in the comoros
- C. v. vintsioides in Madagascar
Habitat and food
The Madagascar dwarf fisherman lives mainly in mangrove areas and feeds on small fish, crustaceans and insects .
