Madonna and Child (Gemünden (Daun))
The sculpture Madonna and Child in the Catholic branch church St. Donatus in Gemünden , a district of Daun in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was created in the 14th or 15th century.
The approximately one meter high and probably later colored wooden sculpture with the seated Mary and the baby Jesus on her right side could have been made around 1400. The frill speaks for the beginning of the 15th century.
Mary with a scepter in her left hand is shown with a broad face with red cheeks and pointed shapes. The tight-fitting upper garment is spanned by a belt. The wide, pleated coat ends flat on the floor.
Maria breastfeeds the child with her right breast (see: Maria lactans ).
