A magazine pouch is usually a pouch or other device to hold the replaceable magazine with the cartridges of a handgun located in it.

There are different magazine pouches and holders for different types of handguns and purposes.

In military use, the main focus is on protecting the (loaded) magazine from dust , mud and moisture . For this purpose, the magazine pouch is usually provided with a lid that protects the magazine. Just as important, however, is easy accessibility in all positions, such as lying, kneeling, standing or sitting.

In the sporting field (about the IPSC - Shooting ), however, is the easy access to the most important, so fast the magazines can be changed here.

With the police and other carriers of concealed (not visibly carried) weapons, on the other hand, the main focus is on good adaptation to the body and comfortable carrying.

Magazine pouches are usually attached to a belt . In the military sector, it is more of a complete carrying system with a belt, braces-like holders, etc. The way that the magazine pouches are attached directly to a protective vest, such as the US Molle system , is new .

If a magazine pouch is able to hold several magazines and is provided with a retaining strap, it is more likely to be referred to as a bandolier .

Magazine pouches can also be distinguished whether they are intended for rifle magazines or for pistol magazines .
