Magdalena de Passe

Magdalena de Passe also: de Pas; Van de Passe, Magdalene (* 1600 in Cologne , † 1638 in Utrecht ) was a copperplate engraver .

Magdalena de Passe was the daughter of Crispin de Passe the elder , who also trained her, and the sister of Crispin the younger , Simon and Willem de Passe. In 1617 she engraved some plates with the depictions of Sibyls . According to Franconia, she took the engraving style of Count Goudt, who was in Utrecht at the time, as a model. She specialized in landscapes and worked as a copperplate engraver until her marriage in 1634 with the artist Frederick van Bevervoorden († 1636). Her father lived with her during her widowhood.

Works (selection)

  • 1618 and 1620 Heroologia of Holland. For this book she and her brother engraved the plates of the illustration.
