Magellan was a Californian music group that was assigned to the area between progressive rock and progressive metal .

Band history

In 1991 the first album "Hour of Restoration" was released. As on all subsequent Magellan albums, it was Trent Gardner who wrote the music and lyrics. Brother Wayne contributed parts of it. The album was released on the new Magna Carta label . It is characterized by a dense energetic sound.

"Impending Ascension" followed in 1994. After that they worked on some tribute albums for Yes , Genesis , etc., which Magna Carta released one after the other. It wasn't until 1997 that another Magellan album was released. "Test Of Wills" was the first time a real drummer replaced the drum machine.

Until 2002 Trent Gardner worked outside of Magellan on some side projects such as two albums "Explorers Club" (1998 "Age of Impact" and 2002 "Raising The Mammoth"), Steve Walsh's solo album "Glossolalia" and the CD musical, which was recorded with numerous guest musicians "Leonardo: The Absolute Man" (released 2001).

Then a new Magellan album, "Hundred Year Flood", was released, which dealt thematically with the brother Jack Gardner, who died in Vietnam in 1966.

In 2003 the band switched to the German label InsideOut Music and released "Impossible Figures", which was finally followed in 2005 by "Symphony For A Misanthrope ". The last album "Innocent God" was released in June 2007. Wayne Gardner died on February 10, 2014, his brother Trent on June 11, 2016.
