Distribution area and habitat

There are two subspecies:

  • G. m. randonii - Loche , 1860 : Hauts Plateaux from Algeria to Eastern Morocco. It occurs here as far as the Moulouya river valley . It is possible that it is also common along the northern slopes of the High Atlas as far as Marrakech.
  • G. m. macrorhyncha - Tristram , 1859 : The occurrence of this subspecies extends from the south of the Western Sahara, the Algerian Sahara Atlas, to the west of Mauritania.

The habitat are dry, warm areas in semi-deserts and along the edges of steppes. It occurs occasionally in the same range as the Theklalerche .

Way of life

The diet of the Maghreb is made up of insects and seeds. The reproductive biology of the Maghreb lark should largely correspond to that of the crested lark.
