Magica is a Romanian power metal band.

history

In February 2002, Magica was by then Interitus Dei - guitarist founded Bogdan Costea as a solo project. Soon Ana Mladinovici (until then singer of Interitus Dei) and Valentin Zechiu ( electric bass ) joined them. The first album The Scroll of Stone was released in the spring of Sigma Records , although Magica had neither a drummer nor a keyboardist . The drum tracks were programmed by Bogdam Costea instead and the guests Ionuț Radu, Bogdan Parlea, Șerban Nicolae, Marius Oprea and Ionel “Vanusa” helped out on the keyboard. Another guest was Gheorghe Capatina as the voice of the narrator. The concept album tells the story of Princess Alma, whose soul was stolen by a demon. She goes on a search for the “scroll of the stone” to break the curse that weighs on her. Most of the songs are sung in English, but there are two songs ( Daca and E Magic ) and other lines in the other songs in Romanian. The story and lyrics were written by Costea. The songs were also composed and arranged by him, with the exception of The Wish , which was written by Ionuț Radu, and The Silent Forest , which was written jointly by Radu and Costea. The cover was painted by Adi Mladinovici.

In the summer of 2002 the missing band members came with Adrian Mihai on drums and Viorel Raileanu on keyboard, but they left the band in the same year. It was not until the spring and summer of 2003 that the current line-up was completed with Cristi Bârlă (drums) and “6fingers” (keyboard).

Magica was named Best Newcomer Band 2002 by Heavy Metal Magazine readers . Furthermore, The Scroll of Stone from Bestial Metal! awarded as the seventh best Romanian album in 2002. In 2003 it was re-released on the Mexican label Divenia Records with a picture of Luis Royo as a cover. Magica also played their first concerts in 2003, some in Romania and also a concert in Bulgaria.

In October 2004 the second album Lightseeker was released; in France with Underclass Music and in America with Divenia Records. Further concerts followed, including in France, as well as a tour as support act for After Forever and Nightmare in early 2006. The lyrics and compositions on Lightseeker were written by Costea and “6fingers”. The cover was designed by “6fingers” based on a drawing by Adi Mladinovici.

In January 2007 the band got a second guitarist with Emilian Burcea. The next album, Hereafter , was released in mid-2007. A video for the song All waters have the color of drowning was recorded in the Romanian fortress of Enisala .

style

Magica plays melodic Power Metal inspired by bands like Rhapsody , Nightwish and Helloween .
