Luis Royo
Luis Royo (born May 20, 1954 in Olalla , Teruel province ) is a Spanish painter who dedicates his works to fantasy . He is probably the best known representative of Heroic Fantasy art. His main themes are women and a dark end time .
biography
From 1971 on, Royo studied technical drawing, painting, decoration (a minor) and interior design at the Industrial Mastery School and the Applied Arts School in Saragossa . He took part in a series of national painting competitions in the years that followed. In 1977 he began to paint large-format pictures with various techniques, all of which were also exhibited, for example in Zaragoza.
Royo has been drawing comics for various fanzines since 1978 . In 1980 some of his works were shown at an exhibition in Angoulême , France .
1983 marked the actual beginning of his career as an illustrator , together with "NORMA Editorial". His works have appeared in galleries and fanzines around the world. At that time he was working in the USA , England , Sweden and his home country, painting covers for books by Tor Books, Berkeley Books, Avon and Warner Books and working as a designer for Spanish heavy metal magazines.
Since 1990, the number rose to his own domain works, when he started it in picture books ( art books ) publishing. He continued to work as a draftsman for covers (e.g. for the Italian band Skylark ), books and comics, but is currently regarded as a freelance artist. His works are mainly published in art books, but are also available as posters .
