Majid Arslan

Majid Taufiq Arslan ( Arabic مجيد توفيق أرسلان Madschid Taufiq Arslan , born February 1908 in Choueifat , Vilâyet Beirut , Ottoman Empire ; † September 18, 1983 in Chaldeh, south of Beirut ) was a Lebanese Druze leader and national hero . He was head of the Arslan family , one of the two ruling Druze families, the Arslans and the Jumblatts .

Life

Emir Majid Arslan was the chairman of the Yazbaki faction. He was a political national figure and played an important role in Lebanon's independence as a long-time member of the Lebanese parliament and government minister since 1931 . From 1937 to 1975 he received a large number of different ministerial portfolios, including defense, health, telecommunications, agriculture and justice in particular. He was also elected to the National Assembly in the parliamentary elections in 1943 and most recently in the 1972 elections.

He is the son of the Emir Taufiq Arslan , who helped found Greater Lebanon in 1920 . Majid Arslan studied at the famous French school, the Mission Laique Francaise . His son Talal Arslane is the leader of the Lebanese Democratic Party .
