Magnequench was an American magnet manufacturer .

history

In 1982 General Motors (GM) and Sumitomo Special Metals invented the neodymium-iron-boron magnetic alloy. Magnequench was founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of GM and began production in 1987 in Anderson, Indiana .

In 1995 the company was taken over by Sextant MQI Holdings by Archibald Cox, Jr., backed by the Chinese companies China National Non-Ferrous Metals Import & Export Corporation (CNIEC) and San Huan New Material . In 1998 a new plant was opened in Tianjin . Magnetic powder production in Idaho Falls was discontinued in 2000 and the last plant in Valparaiso, Indiana, was closed in 2006 .

In 2005 Magnequench merged with AMR Technologies from Toronto and renamed itself Neo Materials Technologies . In 2007 a new plant was opened in Korat , Thailand. 2012 Neo Materials Technologies for 1.3 billion was US dollars from Molycorp , the now insolvent owner of the Mountain Pass -Mine taken over.
