The Magnis Valley is an expansive, 8 km long and ice-free valley in the Australian Antarctic Territory . In the Britannia Range , it is 3 miles west of Derrick Peak .
The team of New Zealand geologists from the University of Waikato , who carried out surveys in this area between 1978 and 1979, named the valley based on the naming of the Britannia Range after the Magnis fort from Roman times in Northumbria .
