Magnolia Electric Co. is an American rock band with a stylistic tendency towards alternative country and Americana music genres .
history
Jason Molina , the previous front man of the band Songs: Ohia , announced during a tour in March 2003 that he would rename the band to Magnolia Electric Co. Molina kept many of the musicians who were working with him at the time. He also stayed true to the stylistic direction of the then current album of the same name: Country-heavy, lively rock with massive instrumentation. A clear contrast to the mostly very calm pieces of the old band songs: Ohia.
Molina announced that he would continue to release solo albums on the side, but from now on under his own name. The first such release came in January 2004 with the album Pyramid Electric Co.
Officially there are songs: Ohia not since Magnolia Electric Co. was founded. All projects since 2003 have been marketed either as Magnolia Electric Co. or as a solo work by Jason Molina.
Since Jason Molina had to take a break from singing and songwriting since 2011 for health reasons, the band was also resting. Molina died in March 2013.
Publications
Magnolia Electric Co.'s first official release was a live album called Trials And Errors , followed in 2005 by the first studio album What Comes After The Blues . In 2006, Molina released two more works: the sparsely orchestrated solo record Let Me Go, Let Me Go, Let Me Go and the more conventional Fading Trails (with Magnolia Electric Co.), which emerged from three different sessions over the past year was. In 2007 the 3-CD box "Sojourner" was released with well-known and previously unpublished songs and Indian musician Andrew Bird as a guest star. With "Josephine" the band released their most commercially successful album to date in 2009.
