Magnus Klaue is a German literary critic , literary scholar and Germanist .

Life

Klaue studied German , philosophy , theater and film studies  at the Free University of Berlin , where he received his Magister Artium in 2001 . From 2003 to 2008 he was a research assistant in the field of modern German literature at Marlies Janz . In 2008 he received his PhD thesis Poetic Enthusiasm. Else Lasker-Schüler's Aesthetics of Kolportage is doing her doctorate. From 2008 to 2015 he worked as a freelance author, editor and editor in Berlin. From 2011 to 2015 he was an editor in the dossier and proofreading department of the weekly newspaper Jungle World . Since 2015 he has been a research assistant at the Simon Dubnow Institute in Leipzig. There he is working on a biography of Max Horkheimer . In addition to critical theory , his work focuses on German-Jewish and Austrian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as language criticism and satire in the aesthetics of modernity.

In addition to his academic work, Klaue writes essays and articles critical of literature and culture for newspapers, magazines and journals such as FAZ , Die Zeit , Soziopolis and Bahamas . In 2015 he formulated a criticism of the Science Slam in the FAZ. He interprets it as "an expression of indifference to work that is economically worth preserving at any price, but intellectually a burden". Klaue also criticizes the digital humanities , which he accuses of “old-fashioned positivism ”, in his texts. In 2016 he wrote a widely acclaimed review of the work of the philosopher Byung-Chul Han , which he described as "darkly whispering cultural criticism". Between 2018 and 2020 he wrote the column Lahme Literaten in Jungle World, which criticized the work of individual authors and genres.
