Magnus Meischner

August Ernst Magnus Meischner (born March 31, 1821 in Hartenstein ; † August 26, 1892 in Penig ) was a German lawyer and liberal politician ( German Progressive Party ).

The son of Christian Ernst Meischner, fürstlich- beautiful burgi shear Council and district medical officer in Hartenstein, studied 1840-1843 at the University of Leipzig law . In the 1840s he established himself as a lawyer in Penig. He was admitted to the Penig District Court and the Chemnitz District Court. In July 1852 he completed his doctorate as Dr. jur. from. From the end of the 1870s he also worked as a notary .

Meischner was the head of the city council of Penig. He strongly advocated the connection of the city of Penig to the Saxon railway network, in particular the construction of the Penig-Narsdorf (built in 1873), Glauchau-Penig (built in 1875) and Penig-Rochlitz (built in 1876) railway lines . After the resignation of the MP Eduard Schreiber , Meischner was elected to the second chamber of the Saxon state parliament in a by-election in the 8th urban electoral district . He was a member of this until 1881.

In recognition of his work, he was made an honorary citizen by the city of Penig in 1875 . The Meischnerstraße in Penig is named after him.
