Magret Wolf

Magret Wolf (* 1960 ) is a German composer .

Live and act

Magret Wolf grew up in Munich , learned violin and piano and began composing at the age of seven. From 1974 she studied composition and music theory with Richard Langley in Norfolk (Virginia) , from 1980 to 1986 in Munich and Vienna Jewish studies , musicology and philosophy . Magret Wolf studied composition again with Peter Kiesewetter from 1981 to 1982 and took part in the Darmstadt summer courses for new music in 1982 and 1984 . In 2006 she gave master classes in composition at Bilkent University Ankara. She lives and works in Berlin .

Her most important works include Gilgal for horn and orchestra (1989) and the ballet music Kain weHewel for percussion quintet (1993). After a personal encounter with the Kyrgyz poet Tschingis Aitmatow in Brussels in 1997 , Wolf secured the rights to the novella The Boy and the Sea (Пегий пес, бегущий краем моря) and on this basis wrote the libretto and the music for the opera Kirisk - the boy and the sea , which is her main work.
