Mahaf is the ancient Egyptian name of a sky deity. According to the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead , the heavenly ferryman Mahaf brings the souls of the dead on a boat made of papyrus through windy waters into the Duat .
The death ship is under the care of the god Cherti , who spends most of the time sleeping at the helm. Mahaf is also the herald of the king , when facing the sun god Re occurs.
