The Mahindra Scorpio is a sport utility vehicle from the Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited .
history
Until the mid-1990s, Mahindra & Mahindra was an automobile assembly company. In 1996, the company decided to enter the SUV segment with a new vehicle that was to be globally competitive.
For the new Scorpio, Mahindra & Mahindra had all important systems developed directly by the suppliers. The design and construction of the systems, such as tests, validations and material selection, were carried out by the suppliers. Procurement and development locations were also selected by the suppliers. The parts were later assembled at a Mahindra factory under the Mahindra brand. With this method, the company was able to create a new vehicle with almost 100 percent participation of the suppliers from concept to reality at a price of around 600 billion rupees .
The vehicle has been built in Nashik , India, since June 2002 . In 2007 the model received a facelift. In September 2014, the company presented another revised version of the SUV. At the end of 2017 the Scorpio was revised again. Since then, the SUV is no longer available with an automatic transmission .
Since June 2007, the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway has also been offered as a pick-up version.
export
The vehicle is now being sold in many countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and South America. To avoid confusion with the Ford Scorpio , the SUV is offered in Europe as Mahindra Goa . The Scorpio is also manufactured as a CKD kit in the city of October 6 in Egypt by the Bavarian Auto Group and in Montevideo in Uruguay.
