The early classical Potsdam Temple of Antiquities is completed.

  • The New Palais , which began at the end of the Seven Years' War on the west side of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, will be completed after six years of construction. It is considered to be the last significant baroque palace complex in Prussia.

Painting and sculpture

  • The 34-year-old Joseph Ducreux paints the Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria, who later became Queen of France, in pastel on parchment.
  • The 37-year-old Jean-Honoré Fragonard paints the oil painting Inspiration (German: The Poet ).
  • Ozias Humphry , 27, is painting a miniature of Princess Charlotte using watercolors on ivory.
  • The 51-year-old Alexander Roslin paints an oil painting of the Swedish court marshal John Jennings (1729–1773) and his siblings.
  • The 36-year-old Johann Zoffany paints the oil painting The Drummond Family
  • 45-year-old George Stubbs paints the oil painting The Milbanke and Melbourne Families .
  • The 42-year-old Antoine Tassaert created the marble sculptures L'Amour prêt à lancer un trait and Cupido .
  • The 30-year-old Christopher Hewetson made the marble busts of Charles Townley (1737–1805) and Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, 4th Baronet (1749–1789).
