Giuseppe Bazzani (born September 23, 1690 in Mantua , † August 17, 1769 there ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Bazzani initially apprenticed to the Parmesan painter Giovanni Canti (1653–1716). Occasionally he created paintings and frescoes together with the Canti student Francesco Maria Raineri (1676–1758).

Before Bazzani emerged as a Rococo painter, who was ultimately close to Giovanni Battista Pittoni (* 1687) and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (* 1696), he gradually oriented himself towards his predecessors - as if there were the Baroque painters Francesco Maffei (* 1600), Peter Paul Rubens (* 1577), Domenico Fetti (* 1589) and Paolo Veronese (* 1528).

From 1752 Bazzani taught at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Mantova and was director of the Mantuan Art School from 1767. Felice Campi (1746-1817) and his adopted son Domenico Conti Bazzani (1740-1817) were among his students .
