Karel Postl (* 1769 probably in Bechin ; † 15. March 1818 in Prague ; also Postel wrote) was a Bohemian vistas - and landscape painter and draftsman and graphic artist of Classicism .

Life

The son of a count's official probably studied at the Vienna Academy . In 1806 he applied to the Patriotic Friends Association for the position of professor - "academic teacher of landscape drawing" - at the newly established school for landscape painting at the Prague Academy , where he taught until his death after his appointment. His teaching activity was only interrupted after the national bankruptcy of 1811, when the school was closed and Postl had to live on commissioned works. In 1806 he was also appointed theater painter for the Estates Theater . He died of pulmonary tuberculosis and with him the school, which was only reopened on January 1, 1836 by Antonín Mánes .

Works

A close emotional connection to the city of Prague, to which he dedicated several works, is unmistakable in his works. The Vienna School had an influence on his work, where he got to know the Central European influence of classical art. He also managed to implement the graphic elements of old Dutch people in his works. Together with the draftsman and graphic artist Antonín Puchera , he created picture postcards of the spa towns of Teplitz and Karlsbad .
