Antonín Mánes
Antonín Mánes (born November 3, 1784 in Prague , † July 23, 1843 there ) was a Czech painter and draftsman of the Romantic period.
Life
The son of a journeyman miller taught himself to paint as his family could not finance his studies. For a while he earned an extra bread in a Prague porcelain factory as a decorative standard. It was not until 1806 that he entered the district school of the Prague Academy. The work in the studio of his teacher and painter Karel Postl exerted the greatest influence on him . In 1836, Mánes was appointed professor of landscape painting.
Works
Under the influence of German painting, he gradually switched from depicting ideal landscape paintings to Romanticism , often with realistic elements, which in turn led to his becoming a great fan of 17th-century Dutch painting. His pictures are characterized by vivid colors and the attempt to capture the atmosphere of the landscape.
