Quido Mánes
Quido Mánes , also Guido Manes (born July 17, 1828 in Prague , † August 5, 1880 ibid), was a Czech painter.
Life
Quido Mánes came from a family of artists whose ancestors came from the Netherlands and was the son of Antonín Mánes and the younger brother of Josef Mánes . He studied from 1838 to 1851 at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and from 1870 to 1871 with Benjamin Vautier in Düsseldorf .
meaning
Quido Mánes did not achieve the importance of his brother Josef, but was nevertheless one of the leading Czech painters in the field of genre painting. After beginning history painting, Mánes came to the genre around the middle of the 19th century, where he could play to his strengths. Above all, he portrayed scenes from the petty-bourgeois everyday life in Prague and folk scenes from the Chodenland in southwestern Bohemia. His depictions of children were very successful. A work planned together with his brother Josef on the folk costumes of the Bohemian countries did not materialize.
