The Cardiopteridaceae are a family within the flowering plants (Magnoliopsida).

description

Citronella mucronata : foliage leaves from below

The species in the family are often woody or herbaceous climbers . Citronella are trees or shrubs . Some types contain latex . The alternate, stalked, simple leaves are palmate in some species. Often the leaf margins are serrated. Stipules are missing.

Branched, axillary, zymous inflorescences are formed. The flowers are hermaphroditic or separate sexes. The small, radially symmetrical flowers are usually five, rarely four. The petals are fused Roehrig. There is only one stamen circle . The stamens are often fused with the corolla tube. The two carpels are a top permanent ovary grown, differently shaped with two free punches. Two-winged Samara (= wing nut fruits ) or more or less flattened stone fruits are formed.

Systematics and distribution

The Cardiopteridaceae family is most closely related to the Stemonuraceae family. Many taxa were previously assigned to the Icacinaceae . The Cardiopteridaceae family was established in 1847 by Carl Ludwig Blume .

The taxa thrive in temperate, subtropical and tropical areas. Areas are located in South America , Africa , Madagascar , Southeast Asia and on the Pacific islands and in eastern Australia .

In the Cardiopteridaceae family there are five to six genera with around 43 to 45 species: (For some authors, the family also consists of fewer genera.)

  • Cardiopteris Wall. ex Royle (Syn .: Peripterygium Hassk. ): With two types:
    • Cardiopteris moluccana flower : It occurs in central and eastern Malesia.
    • Cardiopteris quinqueloba (Hasskarl) Hasskarl (Syn .: Cardiopteris hamulosa Griff. , Cardiopteris javanica flower , Cardiopteris lobata Wall. , Cardiopteris platycarpa Gagnep. , Cardiopteris rumphii Baill. , Cardiopteris subhamata Wall. Ex Baill. ): It comes from northeastern India to Yunnan and in Malesia before.
  • Citronella D.Don (Syn .: Briquetina J.F. Macbr . , Chariessa Miq. , Sarcanthidion Baill. , Villaresia Ruiz & Pav. , Villaresiopsis Sleumer ): The approximately 20 species are distributed from Malesia to islands in the Pacific and in the Neotropic .
  • Dendrobangia Rusby (Syn .: Asterolepidion Ducke , Clavapetalum Pulle ): With two types:
  • Gonocaryum Miq. (Syn .: Phlebocalymna Griff. Ex Miers ): The eleven species are distributed from Indochina to Taiwan and “Papuasia”.
  • Leptaulus Benth. (Syn .: Acrocoelium Baill. ): The six or so species are common in tropical Africa and Madagascar .
  • Pseudobotrys Moeser : The two species both only occur in New Guinea :
