Los Carneros AVA (also known as Carneros AVA ) is an American wine region which extends over the districts of Sonoma County and Napa County extends in California. The area is north of San Pablo Bay and is Napa County's southernmost Denomination of Origin . The cool breezes from the nearby bay and often cool fog create a microclimate similar to that of the nearby Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley AVA , which is clearly different from the hot climate of the regions further north of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley . Early ripening grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive here. The wines have a strong acid structure and are often used as the base wine for the production of sparkling wine .

Los Carneros is on the list of the American Viticultural Area and is part of the Wine Country as well as the larger Napa Valley AVA , North Coast AVA , Sonoma Coast AVA and Sonoma Valley AVA .
