List of grape varieties

Friulano is an autochthonous white wine variety from northern Italy and a classic variety from Friuli and Veneto . Its cultivation is recommended in a number of provinces in northern Italy. It is also approved in Argentina , Chile and Russia. In Italy, a planted vineyard area of 7,260 hectares was surveyed in 1999  , in Argentina the area was almost 1,000 hectares.

The grape variety was originally called simply Tocai in Italy . The ampelographer Dalmasso suggested the name Tocai Friulano to avoid confusion with the Tokaj . On August 21, 2006 it was decreed by wine law that the name of the grape variety may only be Friulano since the 2008 vintage , so that the requirements of the EU in terms of trademark protection of the Tokaj can be met.

The late-ripening variety is vigorous and high-yielding. The varietal white wines are straw yellow to golden yellow in color and have a high alcohol content. Both dry and sweet wines are obtained from it, with the significantly better qualities being found in the dry variant. The wine finds its way into the DOC wines Bianco di Custoza , Colli Berici , Collio Goriziano , Colli Orientali del Friuli , Friuli-Annia , Friuli Aquileia , Friuli Grave , Friuli Isonzo and Friuli Latisana as a single variety or blended .
