The Colli Orientali del Friuli (German: "Eastern Hills of Friuli") or Friuli Colli Orientali are an Italian wine-growing region located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region near the border with Slovenia . Here a variety of both are DOC and - DOCG - wines grown. The DOC appellation Colli Orientali del Friuli is home to the largest number of autochthonous wines in Italy.

The Colli Orientali del Friuli growing area was defined in the corresponding DOC wine regulations (1970, updated on November 30, 2011). It covers the entire hilly area of ​​the municipalities of Tarcento , Nimis , Povoletto , Attimis , Faedis and Torreano , Cividale del Friuli , San Pietro al Natisone , Prepotto , Premariacco , Buttrio , Manzano , San Giovanni al Natisone and Corno di Rosazzo .

In 2017, 77,843 hectoliters of wine were produced. The majority of the wine produced is white wine , but rosé wine , sweet wine ( Ramandolo and Picolit ), sparkling wine and red wine are also produced.

Production rules and description

The following wines are produced in this denomination: Chardonnay , Malvasia , Pinot bianco , Pinot grigio , Ribolla gialla , Riesling , Sauvignon Blanc , Friulano , Traminer aromatico, Verduzzo friulano , Cabernet (from Cabernet franc and / or Cabernet sauvignon and / or Carménère ), Merlot , Pignolo , Pinot nero , Refosco dal peduncolo rosso , Refosco nostrano , Schioppettino , Tazzelenghe .

The wines listed must contain 85–100% of the grape varieties mentioned. Other grape varieties can be added up to 15%.

Wines with the label "Riserva" must be stored for at least two years before they can be sold. The wine with the designation Friuli Colli Orientali - Cialla must be stored for at least four years.
