Mahone Bay is a city in Nova Scotia , Canada . It is located on the west bank of the bay of the same name in Lunenburg County .
history
The first settlers came in 1754 from the nearby town of Lunenburg , which was founded a year earlier. They mainly included immigrants from Germany , Switzerland and Montbéliard . Descendants of the first families with names like Hyson, Zwicker, Keddy, Eisenhauer / Eisner, Weinacht / Whynot, Ernst and Veinot still live in the city today. In the old Bayview Cemetery there are gravestones from the 18th century with German inscriptions . Mahone Bay received city rights in 1919.
economy
The boat building was after the founding period of the city long the main industry. Today only the "Settler's Museum" and the Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival , which takes place every August, are reminiscent of times gone by. As in many cities and towns in Nova Scotia, tourism has become the main source of income. You will find luxurious accommodation, restaurants and souvenir shops in the city and the surrounding area.
