Mai Mercado (born August 20, 1980 in Tønder as Mai Duedal Henriksen ) is a Danish politician of the conservative People's Party and was Minister for Children and Social Affairs.

Life

Mercado was born in 1980 as the daughter of John Carstens and the advanced training teacher Hanne Carstens. From 1997 to 2000 she went to the Katedralskole in Odense . She studied at the Syddansk Universitet from 2001 to 2008 with a degree as Cand.scient.pol.

From 2006 to 2011 Mercado was a member of the city council in the municipality of Odense and from 2009 to 2011 the second vice mayor. From 2008 to 2011 she was a consultant for Energinet.dk.

Mercado has been a member of the Folketing since September 15, 2011 . From 2010 to 2013 she was a candidate for her party in the constituency of Faaborgkreds . Since 2013 she has been a member of the local government in the municipality of Frederiksberg . Since November 28, 2016 she has been Minister of Social Affairs in the Lars Løkke Rasmussen III government .

Mercado is the mother of two children. She writes a column for Berlingske .
