action

England 1910: Maia has been living in a boarding school since her parents were killed in an accident. One day she received the news that distant relatives from Brazil wanted to take her in. Together with her governess Miss Minton, who seems a little grumpy to Maia at the beginning, but soon becomes a good friend, she sets off on the ship for South America. On the trip she meets the boy Clovis, who wants to perform the play The Little Lord , in which he plays the leading role, with a group of traveling actors in the Manaus theater .

As soon as she arrives in Manaus, Maia's dreams of a happy future are ruined: The Carter family and above all the two twins Gwendolyn and Beatrice turn out to be unsympathetic contemporaries who only took Maia in to make a living. Soon, however, Maia meets the half-Indian boy Finn, who has lived alone in a lagoon since the death of his father. Finn's father, the scientist Bernhard Taverner, knew Miss Minton, who had worked as a maid in Westwood until she was fired for reading too often in the library. Finn has lived in the Amazon since he was born . But now his rich, noble grandfather wants to bring him to his estate in England, since Finn is his only heir; private detectives are already looking for him in Manaus. With the help of a ruse, the children manage to get the detectives to bring Clovis, who longs for his home country England, there instead of Finn as Westwood's heir. Finn can finally do what he has been planning to do for a long time: With his boat "Arabella", which was named after Miss Minton's first name at his father's request, he searches for the Xanti tribe to which his mother belonged .

In Manaus, the events are tumbling: While Miss Minton is making plans to leave the Carters with Maia to move to a befriended Russian family, the Carter's house catches fire. Maia goes on a big adventure trip with Finn because she feels abandoned by Miss Minton without knowing that Miss Minton wanted to take her with her. Miss Minton and her friend, a professor at the Natural History Museum in Manaus, steal the Carters' ship and hastily follow them. When they catch up with the two children, Miss Minton throws her corset into the Amazon.

A little later, the four come across the Indian tribe to which Finn's mother belonged and they decide to stay there. However, her luck does not last long, because Maia is wanted by the water police. You and Miss Minton are forced to return to England. Finn joins them because Clovis is having trouble in his new home. These problems ultimately turn out to be void, because Finn agrees that Clovis will inherit Westwood and everything will end well for Maia and Miss Minton as well: They may return to Brazil.
