Mailberger Bund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On October 14, 1451 , under the leadership of Ulrich von Eyczing, the estates of Upper and Lower Austria met at Mailberg Castle near Hollabrunn with 39 lords and knights and city representatives from Upper and Lower Austria and formed an alliance against King Friedrich III, the later Emperor Friedrich III. because of the release of the heir to the throne, Ladislaus Postumus, under his tutelage . In the name of “all prelates, lords, knights and servants” they did not want to rest “until their legal heir” had not been released from Friedrich's guardianship and had set up his residence in Vienna. After a short time, 250 members of the meeting of the estates sealed the so-called Mailberger Bund .

The pretext of the alliance was the release of Ladislaus Postumus from the guardianship of his uncle, but the estates were also concerned with their own influence. In September 1452, after the siege of the emperor in Wiener Neustadt , the estates were handed over by Ladislaus. On September 6, 1452, Count Ulrich von Cilli made a solemn entry into Vienna with the young Ladislaus, the estates had triumphed.
