Thomas Brezinka

Thomas Brezinka (born May 5, 1961 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian conductor , musicologist , cultural manager and lecturer .

Life

Thomas Brezinka, born in Innsbruck in 1961, a son of Wolfgang and Erika Brezinka, graduated from high school in Konstanz in 1980 and then studied oboe with Arthur Jensen at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as conducting with Otmar Suitner and musicology with Hartmut Krones . At the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , Brezinka completed her PhD with a Magister Artium and Dr. phil. There was also a degree in cultural management from the FernUniversität Hagen . After a brief activity as a répétiteur in Baden , he became conductor of the Wernigerode State Orchestra in 1990 , with which he gave his first concert on the Day of German Unity in 1990 in the Sylvestri Church. In 1993 he resigned from this office.

In 1997, Brezinka founded the Orchestra Ensemble NiederRhein , whose series of children's concerts became well-known across the region. Brezinka has been managing director of notabu.ensemble neue musik Düsseldorf since 2001 and director of the cathedral music school in Xanten since 2002 .

In addition, Brezinka led seminars on orchestral management as part of the cultural management course at the FernUniversität Hagen 2001–2005 and worked as an employee of the encyclopediaMusic in Past and Present ” and as an author of his own books and articles in specialist journals.
