Carl Paschen

Carl Paschen (born November 25, 1857 in Güstrow ; † September 7, 1923 ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral .

Life

Paschen joined the Imperial Navy as a cadet on April 12, 1874 , completed his basic training on the sailing frigate SMS Niobe and then attended the naval school until May 18, 1876. He then served on board the tank frigate SMS Kaiser and on the covered corvette SMS Elisabeth . From November 3, 1878 to May 5, 1879 he attended the naval school again, was promoted to lieutenant at sea on November 19, 1878 and was then on the tank frigate SMS Prussia . From September 26, 1879 to March 31, 1881, Paschen was a company officer in the sailor artillery department of the 1st sailor division. From April 1, 1881 to October 23, 1883 he was officer on watch on the cruiser frigate SMS Moltke ; in this position on September 21, 1882 he was promoted to lieutenant at sea .

After that he was again a company officer in the 1st Sailor Division for six months, then came as an officer on watch and instructor on the torpedo training ship SMS Blücher and was then commander of the torpedo test boat SMS Vulcan for six weeks . As a company officer, he served for two months in the I. Werft Division before he was deployed as a commander on various torpedo boats until October 7, 1886 . Once again he worked for six months as a company officer in the 1st Sailor Division. Paschen then worked as a watch officer on the cruiser frigate SMS Gneisenau until March 28, 1889 , then in the same function on the tank corvettes SMS Bayern and SMS Sachsen . Until April 8, 1890, it was used again with the torpedo weapon in order to then act as a navigation officer on the training ship SMS Niobe .

There Paschen became a lieutenant captain on May 24, 1890 . For four years he was active in the torpedo test detachment until September 30, 1894 . He led a company of the I. Torpedo Department for a year , was placed at the disposal of the I. Marine Inspection until May 10, 1896 and was transferred as first officer to the station ship SMS Kaiser lying in front of Nagasaki . On April 12, 1897, Paschen was promoted to Korvettenkapitän , and after his return he acted as torpedo director of the Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven . Subsequently, Paschen came to the Kaiserliche Werft Kiel as head of the central department and assistant to the chief shipyard director, and in this role became sea captain on March 6, 1903 . From October 1, 1904 to January 2, 1905, he was made available to the chief of the Baltic Sea Naval Station and then ordered to serve as a teacher at the naval educational establishments.

On April 5, Paschen was put up for disposal and used as a ZD officer. First he was again a teacher at the educational institutions of the navy and from October 12, 1905 port captain of Kiel . At the same time he was the board member of the settlement office of the Baltic Sea station. Paschen was retired from active service on October 16, 1909 while being promoted to rear admiral.
