The Mainz Figural Choir was a mixed choir in Mainz , which was led by Stefan Weiler from its founding in 1979 until its dissolution in 2014 .

The choir was founded by a group of Mainz students who were enthusiastic about the chamber music performance of choral music from all epochs. The project should be a musica figuralis ; In the Renaissance, this was the name given to a complex interplay of equal voices. The name of the ensemble was found. Over the years the choir has developed into a homogeneous ensemble of professional musicians, qualified amateurs and music students.

The repertoire comprised sacred and secular a cappella works of all style epochs as well as oratorical compositions. A special focus was the regular occupation with the works of Johann Sebastian Bach , which led to the development of the concert series “Mainz Bach Weekends”. The choir also dealt intensively with contemporary works. The choir made concert tours through Germany, Italy , France and Russia . Radio and television reported several times about the concert activity.

The Mainz Figural Choir has won various competitions (1st prize state choir competition Rhineland-Palatinate, 1st prize choir competition of Südwestfunk, special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work at the federal choir competition) and has worked with choir directors such as Helmuth Rilling and Wolfram Wehnert.

On June 29, 2014, the choir gave its last concert in the Catholic Church of St. Johannes Evangelist in the Münchfeld district of Mainz.
