Life

Maja Weber started playing the cello at the age of four. She received her basic musical education from her father Rudolf Weber and her mother Elisabeth Weber-Erb . She then received her academic training in the cello subject at the Winterthur Conservatory and the Cologne University of Music and Dance . She attended master classes with Isaac Stern , Walter Levin from the LaSalle String Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet, among others .

Since 1992 Maja Weber has been playing with her parents in the Ars Amata chamber music ensemble in Zurich. She founded the Amar Quartet with her older sister Anna Brunner in 1987 . The Amar Quartet has received several awards, including 1st prize at the 1998 Bubenreuth music competition. In 1999 the Amar Quartet was loaned two violins, a viola and a cello from the workshop of Antonio Stradivari from the Stradivari Foundation Habisreutinger . Since then she has played the Stradivari violoncello "Bonamy Dobree-Suggia" from 1717.

After Maja Weber left the Amar Quartet, she founded the Stradivari Quartet in 2007 . She succeeded in convincing the Habisreutinger Foundation of their project of a “Stradivari Quartet” when they reassigned the instruments. The Stradivari Quartet in turn played the four Stradivari instruments until the Habisreutinger Foundation gave two of the instruments to the Trio Oreade in 2017 .

Maja Weber has also been playing with the Swedish pianist Per Lundberg, who regularly works with the Ars Amata Zurich, as Duo Leonore since 2013. This duo recorded the five cello sonatas by Beethoven in 2014 , followed by the recording of the two cello sonatas by Johannes Brahms in 2017 .
