Mayakovsky Theater (Moscow)
The Moscow Academic Mayakovsky Theater ( Russian Московский Академический Театр имени Вл.Маяковского ), named after the futuristic poet Vladimir Mayakovsky , is a spoken theater in Moscow . It offers performances of plays by Alexander Ostrowski and Leo Tolstoy, as well as performances by independent private theater companies. The theater has 1067 seats.
history
The theater, founded in 1920, was called the Theater of Revolution until 1943 and was under the direction of Vsevolod Meyerhold in the 1920s . When Nikolai Ochlopkow took over the theater in 1943, it was initially called the Dramatic Theater . In 1954 it was given its current name. He was awarded the honorary title of Academic Theater . After Ochlopkov's death in 1967, the theater was directed by Andrei Goncharov until 2001.
