The Makakahi River is a river in the region Manawatu-Wanganui on the North Island of New Zealand .
It rises south of Eketahuna . From here it flows along the New Zealand State Highway 2 for 40 km northwest, before flowing into the Mangatainoka River at Pahiatua , which flows into the Manawatu River a few kilometers further at Woodville .
It is used for trout fishing, kayaking and swimming.
