The Makaturing is a 1940 m high stratovolcano on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines .
The mountain is in the province of Lanao del Sur . It rises on the shoreline of Illana Bay , about 40 km south of Marawi City . This makes it the most westerly in a series of volcanoes in central Mindanao, the most famous of which is the Ragang volcano in the immediate vicinity of Makaturing. Another volcano to the east is the Latukan .
Solfatarian activities were observed during macaturing . The Smithsonian Institution takes the last eruption of the volcano to be 1882, but this is controversial.
