The Makkabia Stadium ( Hebrew : אצטדיון המכביה) was the largest football stadium in Tel Aviv , Israel in the 20th century .
history
It was built in the early 1930s for the first Maccabiade and held around 20,000 spectators on the opening day, March 28, 1932. The stadium was built by the Israeli architect Genia Awerbuch .
Until 1968 it was the stadium and home ground of the largest sports club in Israel, the Moadon Kaduregel Maccabi Tel Aviv club . After the Bloomfield Stadium was rebuilt , the club relocated in the late 1960s.
today
The former Maccabia Stadium on the Yarkon River was dismantled and is now only used as a training field for youth football teams. The rest of the area is used by the Israel Trade Fairs & Convention Center as an outdoor area for trade fair events.
