Maksim Malaj

Maksim Malaj (born December 13, 1958 in Vlora ) is an Albanian major general who was Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces FASH (Forcat e Armatosura të Shqipërisë) and at the same time commander of the Joint Forces Command (Komanda e Forcës së Bashkuar) between 2008 and 2011 .

Life

Malaj completed an officer training at the military academy in Tirana between 1978 and 1981 and was then a shooting instructor between 1981 and 1982 and then from 1982 to 1987 a training instructor at the military school in Zall-Herr . He was then an instructor in the operations department of the 8th Infantry Division in 1987 and 1988 and then until 1989 as commander of an infantry battalion , before he was commander of a territorial battalion from 1989 to 1990. He then completed a course at the Defense Academy in Tirana between 1990 and 1992 and was promoted to captain (Kapiten) during this time in 1991 . Between 1992 and 1993 he was again an instructor in the operations department of the 8th Infantry Division and then from 1993 to 1994 chief of operations of the infantry brigade.

In 1994 Malaj was promoted to major and was again an instructor in the operations department of the infantry division between 1994 and 1997. In 1997 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel (Nënkolonel) . He then held the post of Inspector General of the Ministry of Defense's Inspection Department from 1997 to 2005. At the same time he served in 2001 as a military representative on the arms control center RACVIAC (Regional Arms Control Verification and Implementation Assistance Center) in Croatia and was also the 2002 Colonel (Colonel) transported. Between 2005 and 2007 he was Chief of Staff of the Rapid Intervention Brigade (Brigada e Reagimit të Shpejtë) and during this time completed a course in defense and security studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies (GCMC) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He was then commander of the Rapid Intervention Brigade from 2007 to 2008 and was last promoted to Brigadier General ( General Brigade) in 2008 .

On June 16, 2008, Malaj, who was also promoted to Major General ( General Major) , replaced Lieutenant General Luan Hoxha as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces FASH (Forcat e Armatosura të Shqipërisë) . At the same time, between June 2008 and April 2010, he was the commander of the Joint Forces Command (Komanda e Forcës së Bashkuar) . On August 8, 2011, he was replaced by Brigadier General Xhemal Gjunkshi as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

His marriage to Luljeta Malaj had two children.
